Give Up Ironing – a Writer’s Guide to Time Management was released this morning, and many thanks to all those who pre-ordered it.

Embarrassingly, when I checked my own pre-ordered copy this morning I found it was missing some end-matter. I could have sworn I’d uploaded the final version but I guess I didn’t. So those lovely people who pre-ordered are missing a few pages – the further reading, a list of my books, and the acknowledgements. If you contact me I am happy to send a PDF.

Meanwhile – here are the missing bits:

FURTHER READING

A selection of books by writers I’ve mentioned. I’ve picked a mix of non-fiction and fiction in various genres – as I said earlier, read widely! Links are to Amazon.co.uk.

The Game by Leigh Forbes – fantastic feel-good novella.

Reject Rejection by Wendy Metcalfe – how to pick yourself up after someone’s said ‘no’ to your work.

The Accident by Cally Taylor – brilliant psychological thriller.

I Put a Spell on You by Kerry Barrett – murder, magic, mystery…

Before She Was Mine by Kate Long – absorbing read by a master of relationship fiction.

How To Do Everything And Be Happy by Peter Jones – self help book which does what it says on the tin.

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell – probably the best novel ever written. In my opinion.

The Humans by Matt Haig – funny and profound.

The Last Dance by Sally Quilford – one of many novellas by this hugely productive and inspiring author.

The Novel Writer’s Toolshed by Della Galton – quick guide to writing longer fiction.

Room in Your Heart by Wendy Clarke – warm, life-affirming collection of short stories.

The Butterfly Collector by Adam Dickson – intriguing novel with a beautiful, award-winning cover design.

A LAST WORD ABOUT IRONING

Apparently there is such a thing as Extreme Ironing. Take a look at the website www.xtremeironing.com But don’t try it at home. (See, I always maintained people who iron clothes must be mad!) With thanks to writer Kevin Machin for the link.

 How To Write

Short Stories and How to Write Them – an anthology of women’s magazine short stories plus notes on how to write your own.

Ghost Stories and How to Write Them – a collection of women’s magazine ghost stories plus discussion of what makes a good ghost story for this market.

Fiction

The Emerald Comb – What secrets does Kingsley House hold, and will Katie, an amateur genealogist, discover them?

Mr Cavell’s Diamond – a young maid comes to work for a handsome gentleman and falls for him, but he is seduced and tricked by a manipulative social climber…

The Pearl Locket – Ali is worried about her daughter, who seems to be obsessed by the 1940s, ever since discovering a scrawled message under the wallpaper in her bedroom…

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Thanks to all those lovely writer-friends who answered my call on Facebook and a writers’ forum, for their wonderful tips on time-management.  I used as many ideas as I could. Huge thanks to my husband Ignatius McGurl who’s a great life coach, and who gave me lots of input for this book. He even agreed to be a beta-reader for it. Love you!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kathleen McGurl lives in Bournemouth with her husband sons and cats. She always wanted to write, and for many years was waiting until she had the time. Eventually she came to the bitter realisation that no one would pay her for a year off work to write a book, so she sat down and started to write one anyway. Since then she has sold dozens of short stories to women’s magazines, self-published four books and sold two timeslip novels to Carina UK. She works full time in the IT industry and when she’s not writing, she’s often out running, slowly.
